National Airports Corporation Limited (NAC) is the mandated organization to operate the 22 major airports across PNG. It is governed by the Civil Aviation Act 2000 (as amended) and relevant Civil Aviation Rules (CAR) to provide safe and secure airport services that meet the international standards and recommended practices.

NAC is now inviting applications for the positions of Groundsman and Plant Operator based in Port Moresby.
 
1. GROUNDSMAN

The purpose of this role is to conduct ground maintenance support works within the airport and assist with the general upkeep of the airport airside operations in compliance with the operational safety polices and procedures.

Key Responsibilities;
 
  • Carry out runway patching as instructed by the Airport Safety Officer.
  • Operate a Tractor, Land mower or grass cutter without supervision.
  • Collection and removal of rubbish on airside and landside area
  • Carry out drainage clearing
  • Carry out repair on airport fence maintenance as and when required.
  • Carry out Painting; runway markings, windsocks base, taxi-way marking, apron marking, carparks, perimeter road maintenance.
 
2. PLANT OPERATOR


The purpose of this role is to operate plant to excavate earth, break up pavement, road, rock and obstructions, move and load earth, rock and debris, and level, smooth and compact surfaces in construction and other projectsNAC’s business and contractual affairs effectively.


Key Responsibilities;
 
  • Preparing and positioning plant for operation
  • Selecting, fitting and removing attachments such asN buckets, winches, loading scoops, shovel blades and rock breaking hammers
  • Operating controls to excavate, break, drill, level, compact, gouge out, move, load and spread earth, rock, rubble, soil and other materials
  • Monitoring operation of plant and adjusting controls to regulate pressure, speed and flow of operation, and ensuring safety of other workers
  • Raising, lowering and manipulating attachments using manual and hydraulic controls
  • Working from drawings, markers and verbal instructions
  • Servicing, lubricating, cleaning and re-fuelling plant and performing minor adjustments and repairs.

1. GROUNDSMAN

Key Requirements;

 
  • Successful completion of Grade 10 certification or higher and technical qualification,
  • Must have at least 3 years of work experience or more in a similar role,
  • Must have PNG driver’s license,
  • Hardworking and physically fit;
  • Be able to utilize resources to the fullest of its capabilities,
  • Completed Basic OWH & S Training Levels 1
  • Know the effects of environmental issues and their impact on the airport; Grass growth – Blocked drains – Insects – Fish – Birds) Bird strikes, trespassing (people entering the movement areas to search for fish and birds);
  • Basic knowledge of base course pavement/asphalt removal & replacement;
  • Basic knowledge of water hydraulics and drainage;
  • Hold first aid in the workplace certificate The ability to gain competency in Certificate I to II in Airport Airside Maintenance Operations.

PLANT OPERATOR

Key Requirements;

 
  • Grade ten (10) certificate or higher.
  • The position requires a person who has had at least three (3) years or more of work experience or associated roles in Civil Works, Construction Industry or similar field in aviation.
  • Must have PNG driver’s license, preferably a class 7 or class 6 driver’s licence.
  • Good knowledge of the airside driving manual, safety and precautions.
  • Know the effects of environmental issues and their impact on the airport; Grass growth – Blocked drains – Insects – Fish – Birds) Bird strikes, trespassing (people entering the movement areas to search for fish and birds);
  • Basic knowledge of base course pavement/asphalt removal & replacement;
  • Basic knowledge of water hydraulics and drainage;
  • The ability to carry out routine maintenance of equipment and also find out maintenance needs and operating errors on the equipment.
  • Conduct safety observations reports, inspections etc., on a daily basis
  • Hold first aid in the workplace certificate
  • The ability to gain competency in Certificate I to II in Airport Airside Maintenance Operations.
