MSPNG works with local partners and the Government of Papua New Guinea to provide quality, affordable and accessible services to over 40,000 men, women, and young people every year.

Purpose
Reporting to the Centre Supervisor, the purpose of this role is to perform diagnostic patient care services using an ultrasound machine and other imaging equipment at the clinic. The Medical Imaging Technologist will operate equipment and perform imaging tests and communicate results during diagnostic examinations.

The Medical Imaging Technologist will maintain the high clinical standards expected by MSPNG/MSI and actively work to promote the clinic and contribute to improved financial performance.

It is particularly important that the post holder can sustain a close and collaborative partnership with service delivery staff in the support office and field so that Centre deliverables remain a focus of operational activities.

Objective
The Medical Imaging Technologist is required to provide high-quality imaging services to clients that seek services through MSPNG’s clinics.

Technical Excellence
 
  • Based on the imaging request form and recorded client notes, be able to conduct and report on the diagnostic findings.
  • Performance diagnostic procedures using imaging equipment.
  • Ensure that the highest standards of imaging services are provided to clients as per NDoH and MSPNG/MSI guidelines. 
  • Ensure that all Imaging equipment is well maintained including timely servicing and repairs.
  • Ensure that the Imaging unit is clean, neat, and tidy at all times.
  • Keep him/herself updated with the necessary knowledge that ensures the best client diagnosis and care.
  • Ensure that the necessary clinical assessments are done during the examinations.
  • Identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic information and images.
  • Identify normal and abnormal findings and document them appropriately.
  • Correctly interpret sonograms and other images and relay the findings to the Clinicians.
  • Address clients’ inquiries in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Advise or request further tests whenever necessary.
 
Client Care
 
  • Provide comprehensive imaging services to centre clients.
  • Taking necessary steps to ensure that all centre clients are treated with sensitivity, respect, and consideration. 
  • Promptly refer clients to the Centre Supervisor if complaints are raised.
  • Appropriately schedule clients for procedures.
  • Maintain clients’ privacy always 

Record Keeping and Reporting
 
  • Ensure that the necessary client notes and results are clearly and properly recorded using the standard medical terminologies for easy interpretation by the Clinician.
  • Ensure that the Imaging registers are correctly and neatly completed.
  • Ensure that timely monthly Imaging reports are forwarded to the Centre Supervisor.
  • Keep track of the supplies needed and submit requests for a refill before stockouts.
  • Ensure that the Imaging unit is always well-organized and clean.
  • Ensure to maintain data privacy when recording or reporting 
 
Budgetary Control
 
  • In liaison with the Centre Manager, take responsibility for costs in the Imaging unit to be contained within the approved annual budget. 
  • Strive for income from Imaging services to meet or exceed budgeted targets, including providing contract imaging services for non-MSPNG clients to improve the sustainability of Imaging services.
  • The Medical Imaging Technologist will participate in community activities as directed by the Centre Supervisor
  • Working in consultation with the Centre Manager towards the sustainability targets set by the organisation.
 
Corporate Compliance
 
  • Promptly report any Centre staff misconduct that threatens client quality of care and MSI objectives.
  • Actively participate in knowledge sharing and ideas towards building capacity in service delivery and MSPNG business.
  • Comply with MSPNG Policies and Standards, including Clinical Standards, Data Validation, Child Protection, Anti-Fraud and Bribery, and Anti-human trafficking.
  • Adhere to the appropriate code of conduct for Imaging Technologists in PNG regarding professional and ethical behaviour.
  • Perform any other duties as required by the Centre Manager.
Job Requirements:



Qualifications
 
  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Medical Imaging or its equivalent from a recognized Institution
  • Full registration with the PNG Medical Board
 
Knowledge/Experience/skills
 
  • Ability to discuss issues of sexuality and reproductive health with male and female clients of all ages.
  • Experience and knowledge of the Obstetric and gynaecological, surgical and paediatric anatomy
  • Strong knowledge of evidence-based standards of safe practices in the relevant field of Imaging
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, establish priorities and work independently.
  • Computer literate (ability to effectively enter and maintain client records through an electronic database).
  • Experience working as part of a highly functioning team.
  • Excellent record-keeping and time management.
  • Demonstrable experience in managing health care data and report writing in a busy environment.
  • Ability to work in deadline-driven/results-orientated atmospheres.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with people from different backgrounds.
  • Demonstrable experience in emergency preparedness, response and care
  • Understanding of medical and government legislation, policies and medico-legal compliance.
